Thousand Oaks Tournament Has Strong Draw From Top of Region

Six of the region’s top 10 high school softball teams begin play today in the Thousand Oaks tournament.

No. 1 Simi Valley, No. 2 Camarillo, No. 5 Hart, No. 8 Chaminade, No. 9 Newbury Park and No. 10 Thousand Oaks will be joined by Southern Section Division I power Mater Dei and state power Righetti in the 24-team tournament at the Thousand Oaks Community Center and Los Cerritos Intermediate School.

Chaminade faces Camarillo and Hart meets Westlake in two of today’s key matchups.

The tournament continues each Saturday through May 9.

Last season, Thousand Oaks defeated Marmonte League rival Simi Valley, 1-0, in the final.

At Los Cerritos Intermediate School

* 9 a.m.--Thousand Oaks vs. Moorpark, Newbury Park vs. Rio Mesa, Glendale vs. Valencia, Hart vs. Westlake.

* 11 a.m.--Thousand Oaks vs. Louisville, Loara vs. Rio Mesa, Culver City vs. Buena, Hart vs. Santa Maria St. Joseph.

* 1 p.m.--Louisville vs. Moorpark, Cerritos vs. Hoover, Valencia vs. Righetti, Westlake vs. Santa Maria St. Joseph.

* 3 p.m.--Mater Dei vs. Culver City, Long Beach Millikan vs. Cerritos, Newbury Park vs. Loara, Camarillo vs. San Marcos.

* 5 p.m.--Mater Dei vs. Buena, Hoover vs. Long Beach Millikan, San Marcos vs. Chaminade.

At Thousand Oaks Community Center

* 11 a.m.--Simi Valley vs. Santa Barbara.

* 1 p.m.--Lakewood vs. Santa Barbara, Camarillo vs. Chaminade.
