Fourth-seeded Paraclete (9-3) is an underdog to No. 1 Rosamond (12-0) Friday in a Southern Section Division XII semifinal, at least in the eyes of those who seeded the playoffs.

Coach Sid Ware, whose Kilpatrick team faces Riverside Notre Dame in the other semifinal, sees it very differently.

“Paraclete is going to kill Rosamond,” he said. “They’re going to flat-out butcher the top seeds. If Rosamond beats Paraclete, I will be very, very surprised.”

Last season, Riverside Notre Dame was 11-0 and top-seeded before Kilpatrick eliminated the Titans, 20-10.

Kilpatrick will be at home against Riverside Notre Dame. Sort of.

The Mustangs (8-4), who do not have a home field, will host the game at Valley Christian High in Cerritos.

“We wanted play the game at Oak Park, but they were closed on Monday and we had to have a venue set by Monday,” Ware said.

A team’s season record sometimes has a lot to do with who does and doesn’t receive postseason honors, as Littlerock learned.

Junior linebacker Marcus Raines had 190 tackles to shatter the school record but was relegated to the All-Golden League second team.

“When you lose four of your last five games, you don’t get a lot of guys [on the all-league team],” said Coach Jim Bauer, whose team finished 6-5 and fourth in the league. “To the victors go the spoils.”
