Robert Edwards has returned to St. Margaret’s High as girls’ basketball coach, the school announced. During his first tenure, from 1987 to 1989, Edwards guided the Tartans to their first postseason berth.

FOOTBALL

Liberty Christian High’s eight-man football game against Walnut Southlands Christian will probably be played next Tuesday, Liberty Athletic Director Bryan Speer said.

The game was postponed Saturday after officials failed to show up. The schools are awaiting confirmation from Southlands administrators--who are on retreat--to play the game Oct. 3; confirmation is expected on Wednesday.

Additionally, Liberty Christian’s home game on Oct. 28 against Eastside Christian has been moved to Murdy Park in Huntington Beach, and will be played at 6 p.m.

SOCCER

Veteran John Marmelstein, who has had a highly successful small-school coaching career, has joined St. Margaret’s High as girls’ soccer coach, the school announced.

Marmelstein began his career in 1986 as girls’ coach at Playa del Rey St. Bernard High. He took over the boys’ team at Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick High in 1988 and led it to Southern Section Division V titles in 1996 and ’97 and the runner-up spot in 1998. Marmelstein was twice voted Division V coach of the year.
