Nelson, Lin Advance, Will Meet in Easter Bowl

Freshmen Lindsey Nelson and Tracy Lin advanced at the Easter Bowl tennis tournament Saturday in Palm Springs and will play this morning in Palm Springs at 10 in the round of 16 of the girls’ 16 division.

Nelson, from Villa Park High, defeated Ashley Lipton of Saratoga, 6-2, 6-0, and Canyon’s Lin defeated Leslie Koffi of Los Angeles, 6-2, 6-4. Nelson has beaten Lin twice, most recently in three sets in the Century League finals.

Also today, in a 1:30 p.m. boys’ 18 match, University’s Aaron Yovan meets Drew Hoskins, who played two years at Los Alamitos.

Other county players advancing included Corona del Mar’s Anne Yelsey (girls’ 16s), Villa Park’s Arpi Kojian and Woodbridge’s Susanna Lingman (girls’ 18s), Corona del Mar’s Brian Morton (boys’ 18s) and Irvine’s Adam Loucks, Los Alamitos’ Kevin McQuaid and Troy’s Carsten Ball (boys’ 16s).

SOFTBALL

Lisa Jackson, shortstop at Troy High, has signed to play at Vanguard, according to her coach, Marlon Buttram. Jackson is batting .200 with three RBIs.

GYMNASTICS

Ten athletes from the National Gymnastics Training Center in Aliso Viejo have qualified for the Western Regionals.

Lindsey Coombs, Jessica Lucier, Carly Nations, Marcelita Salzle, Megan Schafhausen, Jenna Wendell and Samantha Werbow in Level 8; Michelle Selesky and Lauren Wyluda in Level 9, and Caitlin Atkinson in Level 10 qualified at the Southern California state championships last weekend.
