Greg Prosser is ranked fifth in Ventura County this year in the boys’ shotput and played offensive and defensive line on St. Bonaventure’s Southern Section Division XI championship football teams the last two seasons.

But the 6-foot, 228-pound senior was voted the weakest link on Monday during NBC’s premier of the “Weakest Link”, a prime time trivia game show billed as a cross between “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and “Survivor.”

Prosser’s appearance was a surprise to many at St. Bonaventure, who were on spring break.

“I didn’t know it was coming,” football Coach Jon Mack said. “When the show came on, my phone rang about eight times with people telling me he was on. By the end of the show, I bet the whole team was watching. We were so proud.”

Prosser, who is on pace to be the school’s valedictorian and has a 4.17 grade-point average, fared well against seven older contestants, outlasting four before being voted off.

Prosser, who hopes to become an attorney, said he was hoping to win the show’s $1 million jackpot to help finance his education. He is considering Virginia, California, North Carolina and UCLA.

He said he wasn’t intimidated by the show’s verbally abusive hostess, Anne Robinson.

“She wasn’t that bad,” said Prosser, who answered a classified ad to try out for the show. “Coach Mack is worse.”
