Chatsworth Dominance Could be Challenged

The Chatsworth High girls’ soccer team is attempting to win its sixth consecutive City Section girls’ soccer championship.

But that streak appears to be in jeopardy.

El Camino Real defeated Chatsworth twice in league play and will meet the Chancellors for the third time Saturday at UCLA’s Drake Stadium in the championship game.

Top-seeded El Camino Real (18-1-2) advanced to its first appearance in the final with a 6-0 semifinal victory over Granada Hills on Tuesday.

Samantha Spencer had two goals and two assists, and Kandice McLaughlin added two goals for El Camino Real, which has won 14 consecutive games.

Chatsworth (14-5-1), however, has history on its side.

The Chancellors have won 10 titles since the section playoffs began in 1989. They are in the final for the seventh season in a row and 12th time in 13 seasons.

The only time Chatsworth did not make the final was in 1993-94, when the Chancellors lost to San Pedro, 2-1, in the semifinals.

Chatsworth advanced to the final with a 5-3 victory over San Pedro. Chatsworth defeated San Pedro in each of the last three championship games.

Jenna Fodor had two goals and three assists, and Leila Pate added two goals for the Chancellors.

Fodor has 30 goals and 30 assists, Pate 19 goals and 15 assists and Lindsey Redlin 20 goals and 15 assists.

City Section schools were scheduled to open their spring sports schedules this week, weather permitting.

Baseball and softball teams are taking part in intersectional games and tournaments.

Swim meets, boys’ tennis matches and boys’ volleyball games have also begun.

The first league track and field meets are March 9.
