Los Alamitos (9-2-1) vs. Long Beach Poly (11-1) at Long Beach Veterans Stadium, 7 tonight--Poly has been a nemesis to Los Alamitos in recent years. The Griffins won a second-round matchup in 1994 but have lost to the Jackrabbits in the 1996 and ’98 playoffs. Poly was largely in control of last week’s 21-13 quarterfinal victory over Loyola. Junior Jeff Kline has played so well at quarterback for the Griffins that previous starter Tim Bessolo will remain on the bench even though he’s recovered from a knee injury. For Los Alamitos to have a shot, running back Quenton Jones has to be effective against Poly’s defense, anchored by tackle Manuel Wright. Poly running back Hershel Dennis is coming off a 155-yard effort against Loyola, and quarterback Brandon Brooks threw for 192 yards.
