‘Brother Fastest Qualifier for Governor’s Cup
Righteous Brother, a brother to 2000 champion A Ransom, was the fastest qualifier on Friday night for the $342,500 Governor’s Cup Futurity on June 21.
Owned by John and Kathie Bobenrieth and trained by Connie Hall, the 2-year-old son of First Down Dash completed the 350 yards in 17.695 seconds in winning the fifth of seven trials by 1 3/4 lengths.
Metallic Lion, who was the runner-up to Hawkish in the Kindergarten Futurity last month, was the second fastest qualifier. He won his heat by three-quarters of a length in 17.740 seconds.
Other qualifiers were Devoted Word (17.745), Dreaming First (17.770), Frequent Strawflyer (17.810), Long Stemmed Roses (17.825), Pencilmein (17.830), Sometimes You Win (17.835), Honor And Cherish (17.860) and Dividends Declared (17.885).
The picks: 1. Simonize. 2. Rocket Run. 3. Rate Cut. 4. Mighty Mary Blue. 5. Strawflynfancy. 6. Illumine. 7. Streakin Corona. 8. Pals Eyes. 9. Baby Got Bac.
Four! Use Simonize and Run Five Dashes in the first, Saatin, Rocket Run and Charmer Chance in the second, Rate Cut and First Playboy in the third and Mighty Mary Blue and Miss Snazzy Cash in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Jess Lookin Back gets jockey Ramon Sanchez for his debut in the fifth. A Strawfly Belle makes his local debut in the eighth.
