He Tries to Be King for a Day

Share

Cooked through a wicked pace in the Laz Barrera Memorial on May 26, King Robyn should appreciate softer company and a return to turf in today’s seventh, a $62,000 allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs, at Hollywood Park.

Owned by Cornejo Racing Inc., and trained by Jeff Mullins, the 3-year-old Robyn Dancer gelding was an easy winner the only other time he tried the Hollywood Park turf course. On April 23, the opening day of the current spring-summer meet, King Robyn won the $82,000 Harry Henson by three lengths as the 4-5 favorite.

Threats to the likely favorite among the other five probables are Roll Hennessy Roll, Royal Robe and Flirt With Fortune.

Race of the day: The speedy Seattle Shamus, a son of the late, great Seattle Slew, will make his first start since March 22 in Hollywood Park’s fifth, a $48,000 allowance at six furlongs. The race is the first leg of the pick four.

One for the road: Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has been on a tear at Belmont Park and he’ll try to keep it going with Kathir in today’s sixth, an $80,000 claimer at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. The 6-year-old Woodman horse is a first-time Lasix user and will be ridden by Richard Migliore, who gave a great ride to Iron Deputy in winning Saturday’s Brooklyn Handicap.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Coconut Mango and Seattle Shamus in the fifth, singling Aclevershadeofjade in the sixth, Roll Hennessy Roll, King Robyn and Royal Robe in the seventh and Cafe Photo, Anthony Eats and Lil’ Bro Eddie in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/106. Money: Previous day/meet total: $22/$579.60. Total money bet: $690.
