Whosleavingwho Is Winner
Three weeks after being surprised in the California Challenge Championship, Whosleavingwho, the co-world champion of 2002, got back on track Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
The 1-2 favorite in the $159,100 Spencer L. Childers California Breeders’ Championship Handicap, one of the main events on California Champions Night, Whosleavingwho easily defeated Catchmeinyourdreams and four others in the Grade I.
Owned by Jim Geiller and Kim Kessinger and trained by Paul Jones, the 5-year-old Chicks Beduino gelding won for the fourth time in five races and has won 16 of 30 overall. Whosleavingwho completed the 400 yards in 19.51 seconds under jockey Joe Badilla Jr.
“We pretty much felt he needed the last race,” said Badilla, referring to Whosleavingwho’s half-length loss to 25-1 longshot Catchmeinyourdreams on May 31. “He broke a little slower than normal, but he surged midway through the race. I’m hoping he’ll be world champion again at the end of the year.”
Catchmeinyourdreams, who is trained by Chris O’Dell, outfinished Bobcat Bob, who was seeking his third consecutive victory, for the place. Westmont was fourth.
Shyann Cash, the 3-5 favorite, won for the third time in four starts in the $23,800 California Breeders’ Freshman Stakes.
