Share

It took a strikeout by standout pitcher Kyla Gendler in the bottom of the seventh to enable Chatsworth High to emerge with a 6-5 victory over Carson in the City Section Division I championship softball game at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.

The No. 1-seeded Chancellors (30-5) and No. 2-seeded Colts (26-6) battled back and forth.

Carson tied the score, 3-3, on a two-run home run by Briana Ryan in the fifth. But Chatsworth scored three runs in the sixth, keyed by a two-run double from Janice Hernandez.

Carson closed the deficit to 6-5 in the seventh, but that’s when Gendler came up with the game-ending strikeout.
