Baseball: Catcher Ryan Mendoza is back at Birmingham
City Section baseball just got a lot stronger after catcher Ryan Mendoza transferred from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame back to Birmingham, where he briefly attended the school as a freshman.
Mendoza ended up starting last season as a freshman at Notre Dame. He’s considered one of the best fielding catchers for his grade in Southern California.
“He’s a stud,” said one college recruiter.
With Mendoza and freshman Justin Rorick, another catcher, Birmingham might have the two best young catchers in the City Section, if not the San Fernando Valley.
It’s unknown whether Mendoza will have to sit out the first month of the season per CIF transfer rules if he did not move.
