Baseball: Freshman Tommy Palomera throws two-hitter for Chatsworth

Chatsworth (3-0) already has one of the top sophomore pitchers in the City Section in Josh Garcia. Now the Chancellors have a top freshman pitcher in Tommy Palomera, who threw a two-hitter Saturday to beat Saugus, 2-0, and send the team into the semifinals of the Easton tournament.

He struck out two and walked one. “He is good,” first-year Coach Curtis Scott said.

No. 1 Huntington Beach was knocked off by JSerra, 11-8. Brady Shockey had two hits and four RBIs.

West Ranch defeated Alemany, 2-0. Sophomore Christy Frierson threw five shutout innings, Parker Bacon had two RBIs and Jake Spurlin had two hits. West Ranch is 3-0.

Dalton Duarte hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Newbury Park a 6-5 victory over Chaminade. Kyle Coolidge had three hits for the Panthers (3-0).

No. 2 Harvard-Westlake defeated Moorpark, 6-1. Logan Simon threw 6 1/3 innings. Jackson Grayson had two RBIs. Harvard-Westlake will host Chatsworth in a semifinal on Tuesday.

Vista Murrieta stayed unbeaten with an 8-2 win over Villa Park. Coltin Gerhart, Ruben Ornelas and Alex Jaques each had two hits.

St. John Bosco got another strong pitching performance in a 9-0 win over Redondo. USC-bound Reid Budrovich threw five innings of no-hit ball.

Fountain Valley defeated Garden Grove Pacifica, 3-2. Junior Aguilar had the go-ahead RBI single in the fourth. Scott Schultz threw five scoreless innings after giving up two runs in the first.

Freshman Jonny DeLuca went four for four in Agoura’s 9-1 win over El Camino Real.

Sophomore Tyler Flores went four for four in Westlake’s 7-2 win over Birmingham.

Canyon Country Canyon defeated Village Christian, 3-1. Jon Dicey threw a five-hitter with zero walks. Cole Mears had a double and triple.

Jesse Perdomo of Whittier California went five for five in an 11-4 win over Palos Verdes.

Sierra Canyon (4-0) defeated Bishop Diego, 3-0. Brett Johanesson and Brock Bell combined on a one-hitter.

Valencia defeated Dos Pueblos, 18-7. Devin Davis had a two-run home run and three hits. Kelton Hiura added three hits, including a two-run home run.

Josh Van Dorp had three hits in Quartz Hill’s 6-1 win over Sun Valley Poly. A two-run double by Chase Lambert in the seventh, followed by a game-winning single by Dylan Ross, gave Malibu a 6-5 win over Hawthorne.

North Hollywood defeated Nordhoff, 7-6, in eight innings. Ryan Ruiz threw five scoreless innings.

Trabuco Hills defeated Bishop Amat, 6-4. Granada Hills Kennedy defeated Campbell Hall, 13-2. Alejandro Vasquez had two hits and two RBIs. Noah Valenzuela threw six shutout innings.

Cleveland defeated Eastside, 8-1. Victor Gonzalez went three for three.

Long Beach Wilson defeated Cypress, 7-4.

Hart defeated Burbank, 10-7. Nick Valaika had three hits. Calabasas defeated Burroughs, 8-5. Josh Himmelstern had a two-run pinch-hit single.

Andy Morales had two hits in Camarillo’s 5-2 win over Crespi. Armett Johnson led Crespi with two hits.

Kyle Beadles struck out six in six innings in Loyola’s 7-2 win over Oaks Christian. Stephen Dubb went two for three with three RBIs.

Sylmar defeated Pacifica, 9-5. Angel Hernandez had three hits and three RBIs.

In Simi Valley’s 23-7 win over Palmdale, Lorenzo Perez went five for five and Cal Hodgins was four for four.

Heritage Christian defeated Leuzinger, 13-3. Zack Kastler had two doubles and reached base five times.

Santa Ynez swept a doubleheader from Carpinteria, 9-5 and 7-1.

Banning defeated West Torrance, 5-1. Sophomore Michael Ramirez threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts. Juan Gallardo and Miguel Ruvalcaba had RBI doubles in a five-run fifth inning.

Warren defeated Gardena Serra, 6-1. Alan Trejo threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Chucky Castaneda had two RBIs.

Gahr knocked off Orange Lutheran, 3-2. Crescenta Valley defeated Paloma Valley, 5-1. Austin Brines had three RBIs.
