Boys’ basketball: Bishop Montgomery (24-1) holds off Cathedral

It was close the entire game, but when Bishop Mongomery needed big plays, Stephen Thompson Jr. came through on Wednesday night. He finished with 25 points as the Knights improved to 24-1 overall and 6-0 in the Del Rey League with a 76-69 win over Cathedral.

Milan Acquaah had 25 points and Kobe Paras 18 for Cathedral. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated St. Bernard, 62-49. Gligorije Rakocevic had 35 points and 12 rebounds.

Renaissance stunned Price, 64-61, behind Marquise Mosley, who had 30 points, including the game-winning three.

In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake defeated St. Francis, 77-55. Alex Copeland had 28 points. Crespi defeated Chaminade, 53-41. De’Anthony Melton contributed 16 points and Mitch Mykhaylov added 14. Crespi is 18-6 and 7-2. Alemany defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 65-43. Daron Henson had 13 points and Kevin Summers 12. Alemany is 19-6 and 9-1.

In the West Valley League, Damian Wilson had 17 points in Taft’s 59-51 win over Granada Hills. El Camino Real defeated Cleveland, 78-25. Nick Heller and Donovan Winston each scored 13 points.

In the Western League, Westchester defeated Hamilton, 64-39. Keith Fisher had 12 points. Palisades received 24 points from Joseph Robinson in an 80-40 win over University.

In the Coliseum League, James Preston made his season debut after being sidelined with a knee injury, scoring 15 points in Crenshaw’s 69-29 win over Hawkins. Fremont knocked View Park, 58-53. Marquis McKinzy and Marques Russell each had 16 points.

In the East Valley League, Grant defeated Chavez, 65-64. Kai Smith made a layup with 22 seconds left. Chad Holloway led Grant with 15 points. Poly defeated Monroe, 72-28. Cesar Reyes had 24 points.

In the Pacific League, Chris Hovasapian had 29 points in Burroughs’ 82-66 win over Arcadia.

In an Ocean League upset, Santa Monica defeated Lawndale, 59-54. Jonah Mathews scored 25 points. Jayce Johnson had 13 rebounds and Spencer Freedman added 11 points.

In the Tri-Valley League, St. Bonaventure defeated Bishop Diego, 67-49, to clinch the league title. Ryan Basaldua had 15 points and Thomas Frank 12.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Millikan defeated Compton, 92-88, in three overtimes. Long Beach Jordan defeated Long Beach Wilson, 77-44, with Seth Guillory scoring 29 points.

St. Genevieve defeated Bosco Tech, 58-45, to gain a share of first place in the Santa Fe League. Ross Lee had 16 points and six assists.
