Boys’ basketball: Bishop Montgomery stays unbeaten with 19th consecutive victory

Torrance Bishop Montgomery is giving every indication it intends to make a strong bid to defend its Southern Section Open Division championship. The Knights improved to 19-0 on Wednesday night with a 99-67 rout of Cathedral in a Del Rey League game.

Jordan Schakel and David Singleton each scored 24 points. Lucas Siewert led Cathedral with 24. Bishop Montgomery is on a collision course to play unbeaten Chino Hills on Jan. 30 at Cerritos College. St. Bernard defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 62-61.

In the Mission League, Crespi and Alemany set up a Friday showdown for first place at Crespi with victories. Alemany defeated St. Francis, 74-58. Brandon Davis had 19 points and DJ McDonald 16. Shacquille Dawkins added 15 points and Earnie Sears had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Crespi defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 67-44. De’Anthony Melton scored 18 points. Harvard-Westlake won its third consecutive league game with a 58-47 win over Chaminade. Freshman Cassius Stanley scored 26 points.

In the Trinity League, St. John Bosco defeated JSerra, 68-52. Freshman Makani Whitside had 12 points and nine assists. Santa Margarita defeated Servite, 72-51. Cameron Griffin had 20 points for Servite. Kaden Rasheed scored 23 points and Jake Kyman 22.

In the Ocean League, Santa Monica defeated Culver City, 81-44. Jonah Mathews scored 26 points.

Rancho Mirage improved to 19-0 and 5-0 in the DeAnza League with an 89-51 win over Yucca Valley. Charles Neal had 17 points and Matt Tiederman 16 points and 15 rebounds.

St. Bonaventure defeated Nordhoff, 80-35. Darius Vines had 15 points. Simi Valley defeated Moorpark, 61-57. Kyle Hamilton ahd 13 points and 12 rebounds. Camarillo defeated Royal, 54-49.

In the Western League, Fairfax and Westchester set up a showdown for Friday at Fairfax. Fairfax defeated Venice, 95-59. Babacar Thiombane finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Donald Gipson added 18 points. Westchester defeated University, 93-52. Keith Fisher had 28 points. Gabe Okmin made six threes for Uni.

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real defeated Cleveland, 73-55. Troy Biglow scored 18 points and Brandon Russell 14. Taft defeated Granada Hills, 88-51. Birmingham defeated Chatsworth, 76-63.

In the Valley Mission League, Sylmar defeated Van Nuys, 68-60, in overtime. Richard Alvarez scored 16 points and Clarence Williams had 15 points, including five threes. In the Marine League, Narbonne defeated Gardena, 79-42.

In the Eastern League, South Gate improved to 4-0 with a 65-40 win over Jordan. Sheldon Brookins scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Jose Velasquez had 15 points.

In the East Valley League, North Hollywood defeated Monroe, 78-41, with Sean Fernandez scoring 41 points. Grant defeated Verdugo Hills, 52-44. Chad Holloway scored 17 points.
