Boys’ basketball: The Evan Wardlow lockdown [Video]

Call it an honor to be subjected to the Evan Wardlow lockdown. That’s what happened to talented junior guard Cesar Reyes of Sun Valley Poly on Friday night.
From the moment he stepped onto the court against El Camino Real, Reyes was shadowed and locked down by the 6-foot-3 Santa Clara-bound Wardlow, who plays defense with a passion that’s frequently missing at the high school level.
Reyes missed his first nine shots of the first half in Poly’s 76-42 loss. He finished with 15 points. He’ll be in good company this season, because Wardlow is as good a defensive stopper as there is in Southern California.
With his long arms, good instincts and determination to play defense, it’s fun watching the individual duel.
El Camino Real plays Fairfax on Saturday at 5 p.m., and we’ll have to see which Lion player gets to experience the latest Wardlow lockdown attempt.
