Boys’ basketball: Tyler Dorsey scores a career-high 52 points for Maranatha

As the games become more important and the pressure rises, Tyler Dorsey of Pasadena Maranatha is answering the call to duty.

He scored a career-high 52 points on Saturday night to lead Maranatha past Chaminade, 85-60, in a quarterfinal game of the Division IV Southern California Regionals.

“Tyler put us on his back,” Coach Tim Tucker said.

Dorsey was 14 of 19 from the field and 17 of 26 on free throws. He had seven threes.

Michael Oguine scored 27 points for Chaminade. There was a scary moment in the third quarter when former Chaminade center Trevor Stanback, while going up for a dunk, got hit hard by Chaminade’s Bar Milo and hit the floor face down. He was helped off the court and later returned in the fourth quarter.

There were 51 fouls called in the game and three technicals.

Maranatha will play Crespi in Tuesday’s semifinals. Crespi defeated Valley Christian, 68-48, with De’Anthony Melton scoring 27 points. Campbell Hall rallied for a 79-73 win over Mission Prep. Aaron Holiday, who had 23 points, fouled out with more than five minutes left and his team down by six. Jordan Cohen led the comeback and finished with 21 points. Campbell Hall will play Immanuel, a 77-60 winner over Oaks Christian.

In Division I, Sedrick Barefield scored 22 points in Corona Centennial’s 104-70 win over Village Christian. Torrey Pines defeated Long Beach Poly, 54-49. Chino Hills defeated San Marcos, 82-63. Redondo defeated St. John Bosco, 80-77. Ryse Williams scored 29 points and Morgan Means 19 for Redondo.

In Division III, Kobe Paras scored 27 points in Cathedral’s 84-72 win over Gahr. Alemany pulled out a 59-58 win over Sonora. Shacquille Dawkins scored the game-winning layup with three seconds left and finished with 24j points. Daron Henson had 19 points. Damien defeated Corona del Mar, 61-56. Jeremy Hemsley scored 21 points. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Beverly Hills, 50-43.

In Division II, La Costa Canyon defeated Santa Barbara, 69-44. Lawndale defeated Redlands East Valley, 75-50. Chimezie Metu scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds. Compton defeated Hanford, 54-52. La Mirada defeated Anaheim Canyon, 93-73.

In Division V, Viewpoint defeated St. Bernard, 72-64. Miye Oni scored 31 points and Christian Juzang had 15 points. Sierra Canyon defeated Orangewood, 76-52. Remy Martin had 19 points and Cody Riley 17. Army-Navy defeated Windward, 60-52. Price defeated Rancho Christian, 78-73. Roderick Williams scored 19 points.
