Football: Donovan Lee is Chaminade’s MVP

Share

What I learned after watching two hours of a Chaminade football practice on Friday:

Donovan Lee is the best player on the field. By the middle of the season, he’ll be fighting off college recruiters when they see how valuable he is as a runner, receiver, defender and special teams player.

Quarterback Brad Kaaya has improved on his short and deep passes.

Junior tackle Bar Milo has surpassed 300 pounds in weight. Behemoth might the the new word to describe him.

Kicker Ben Kreitenberg will probably have a difficult time reaching his 2012 total of seven field-goal attempts, but he doesn’t figure to miss when given the opportunity.

Sophomore Blake Rutherford, the Eagles’ standout baseball player, should be a terrific possession receiver.

If the Eagles expect to defeat Gardena Serra this season, they’re going to need quality play upfront on the defensive line.

Coach Ed Croson continues to hire quality assistant coaches. Besides having former Birmingham and UCLA defensive back Dennis Keyes, he has brought back former Birmingham All-City running back Milton Knox and former Cleveland Coach Vinnie Johnson to be assistants.
