Elijah Asante, an assistant football coach at Santa Margarita, confirmed that he received a two week suspension this summer from the school as punishment for a Facebook posting that was interpreted as trying to recruit players to the school.
Asante, a former head coach at Carson, St. Paul and L.A. Jordan, said the posting was an assessment of the Eagles’ needs and not an attempt to recruit players.
Thom Simmons, a spokesman for the Southern Section, said in an email, “A concern was raised, the school was contacted, their administration addressed it and we now consider the matter closed.”
