Football: Jordan Walker’s parents thank medical workers

The parents of Corona Santiago linebacker Jordan Walker issued a statement Monday thanking medical staff for their son’s treatment. Walker suffered a spinal cord injury on Friday night and is in critical condition at Loma Linda University Medical Center. His vitals are stable and he is responsive, the statement said.

In the statement, Curtis and Allison Walker said, “The level of care and professionalism Jordan and we have encountered is unprecedented. Everyone we have encountered has been on top of everything as well as up front and honest about our son’s condition. Of course no parent ever wants to see their child in the hospital. However, in this situation we are thankful to be at Loma Linda. We are also appreciative for the emergency care he initially received at Riverside Community Hospital.

“Because the Santiago High School sports medicine program has evolved over the years, there was an immediate response on the field after Jordan went down. We are so thankful for the care Jordan received during those initial, crucial minutes. We would also like to thank the Upland High School medical team who also played a vital role during the initial response.

“We understand that with any sport, there is the risk of injury. We do not blame or have any hard feelings toward the football players and coaches of Upland and Santiago. We appreciate the love and support Jordan continues to receive from his teammates and coaches.

“The outpouring of support we have received is more than we could have ever expected. Thank you to the Corona community for your prayers and support. Our No. 1 concern is the health and well-being of Jordan. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during this difficult and emotional time.”
