Quarterback Brandon Dawkins completed 21 of 29 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns and D.J. Riggins scored four touchdowns to lead Oaks Christian (2-0) past Upland, 57-28, at Oceanside.

It was the second consecutive game that Upland (0-2), regarded as one of the top teams in the preseason, failed to be competitive. Last week, Mater Dei defeated the Highlanders, 44-13.

“We’re real young,” Coach Tim Salter said. “They have to learn to play together. We’re not tackling. We just have to get better.”

Defensive coordinator Eric Martinez, who missed the last two games after a district and CIF Southern Section investigation into transfer students, will return next week, Salter said.

Tyler Hilinski passed for 206 yards and a touchdown for Upland.

Oaks Christian’s defense showed much improvement after giving up more than 500 yards rushing against Bakersfield. Linebacker Andre Chevalier Jr. and lineman Tyrone Raanono led the Lions.

Riggins had touchdown runs of three, 10 and 19 yards. He also caught a 69-yard screen pass for a touchdown. Chris Davis caught 11 passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

“We’re a totally different Oaks Christian team,” Riggins said. “We play hard, we play physical.”

Oaks Christian plays at Venice on Friday night.
