Football: San Pedro is City Section Division I title contender

San Pedro will be the only school from the Los Angeles Unified School District with permission to host a football game on Friday night. Morro Bay is traveling to San Pedro for a season opener.
“That took months to get approved,” Coach Mike Walsh said.
Friday is a day off for the LAUSD, but because Morro Bay has so far to travel, it was approved.
San Pedro should be considered a City Section Division I title contender. Walsh was pleased with his team’s performance in a scrimmage last week against Dorsey.
“Our offense was pretty good,” he said. “Defensively, we played well, too. I got a lot of surprises. Guys were way better than I realized.”
Junior quarterback Jacob Miller completed eight of 11 passes. He’s ready for a breakout season. San Pedro also has great depth at running back with Chris Alvidrez, Donte Huddleston and Arroyo transfer Christian Serna.
San Pedro plays Narbonne on Oct. 10 at Narbonne in what could be a Marine League title decider.
