On the eve of Friday night’s Taft-Birmingham West Valley League football battle, Taft’s stadium was vandalized and damage was estimated at more than $1,000 from graffiti and paint damage, assistant principal Neezer McNab said.
Taft officials discovered the vandalism Friday morning and believe it occurred between midnight and 5 a.m. McNab said school police were notified and most of the graffiti had been removed by lunchtime. Blue paint was splattered over parts of the bleachers, press box and other areas, along with refererences to Birmingham.
Because of the incident, security will be increased for Friday night’s game.
Taft officials informed Birmingham officials of the vandalism and forwarded photos.
“It’s stupid,” Birmingham Coach Jim Rose said of the vandalism.
