Football: Venice holds off Dorsey, 31-29

In a game between two City Section football powers, Venice was able to come away with a 31-29 road victory over Dorsey. The game should have both schools in the weeks ahead.

Alexander Diamont passed for 177 yards and ran for 71 yards for Venice. Leon Stewart had a 103-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Top-ranked St. John Bosco received five touchdown passes from Josh Rosen in a 75-35 win over Crenshaw. Jacob Knight rushed for 132 yards for Crenshaw. Cliff Sims had 125 yards rushing and Sean McGrew had 133 yards rushing for St. John Bosco. Shay Fields caught six passes for 141 yards and four touchdowns.

In the biggest upset of the night, Norco defeated No. 6-ranked Alemany, 38-27. Norco opened a 21-0 advantage and held on despite Alif Grayes throwing touchdown passes of 95 and 63 yards to Quentin Tartabull. The Warriors were hurt by turnovers. Grayes passed for 461 yards but had three interceptions.

Cory Young rushed for 274 yards for Norco (3-2). Alemany dropped to 5-1.

Lavell Thompson rushed for 186 yards and scored four touchdowns in South Gate’s 51-36 win over Huntington Park.

St. Francis is 5-0 after a 48-14 win over Monrovia. Ty Gangi accounted for seven touchdowns _ four passing, two rushing and one receiving.

Nico Evans scored five touchdowns and rushed for 168 yards in Loyola’s 39-20 win over Valencia.
