Water polo: Harvard-Westlake is ready to take on Mater Dei
It looks like Santa Ana Mater Dei might finally have some competition in high school boys’ water polo.
Harvard-Westlake, a team loaded with top young players, won the USA Water Polo California championship last week, defeating Mater Dei in the championship game, 9-7. There were 48 teams entered in the competition.
Johnny Hooper scored three goals and Ben Hallock and Warren Snyder had two apiece.
Harvard-Westlake and Mater Dei will be in the same three tournaments this fall and are scheduled to meet in a nonleague match in October at Mater Dei.
Mater Dei will start the regular season with a 79-match winning streak.
