San Diego High School Baseball : Lincoln’s Errors Give Victory to St. Augustine

St. Augustine High School took advantage of three Lincoln throwing errors on the final play of the eighth inning to win, 7-6, Friday in a City Central League baseball game at St. Augustine.

St. Augustine’s John Bitler scored from second after the errors on a routine ground ball with no outs in the extra inning.

St. Augustine (1-1 in league play, 1-6 overall) tied the game in the seventh, when Leon Olias’ single to center scored Jim Bitler from second. Olias (1-1) went the distance for the victory.

St. Augustine trailed most of the game, but rallied for three runs in the sixth to cut Lincoln’s lead to 6-5.

San Diego 4, Crawford 4 (9 inn.)--The game played at San Diego High School was stopped because of darkness. Crawford (0-0-2, 1-6-2) rallied for four runs in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by RBI triples from Jeff Wilcox and John Edge. San Diego (0-1-1, 5-3-1) tied it with three runs in the sixth, using a double and back-to-back triples.

Hoover 6, Christian 5--Mike Walker hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to pace Hoover (1-1, 5-5) at Christian. Christian is 1-1 and 5-4.

CITY EASTERN LEAGUE Patrick Henry 19, Serra 7--Patrick Henry (1-1, 4-2-1) had four home runs, including two in the 10-run second inning at Patrick Henry. Dan Gilmore had a two-run homer and Tony McVicar added a solo shot in the second. Eric Helfand, who was 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs, had a two-run homer in the first inning and Marc Lavoie hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Point Loma 3, Morse 2--Judd Franklin’s solo homer in the fifth provided host Point Loma with the game-winner. Starter Israel Stanley (3-0) allowed one hit in five innings. Point Loma (1-1, 5-2) had 10 hits. Morse is 0-2 in league play.

Mira Mesa 12, Madison 6--Mike Eicher’s two-run triple highlighted a five-run second inning at Madison. Eicher (2-0) pitched the first six innings for Mira Mesa (2-0, 8-1).

CITY WESTERN LEAGUE University City 9, University of San Diego High 5--University City (1-1 in league play) capitalized on four San Diego errors, scoring eight unearned runs at USDHS. USDHS is 0-2 and 6-2.
