Division II Girls’ Basketball Playoffs : San Pasqual Gets Return Engagement : It Has Another Shot in Championship Game After Defeating Madison

San Pasqual’s girls have been to the big one before, and they are going again.

Julie Doria, the Eagles’ senior floor leader, top scorer and leading personality, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Doria scored 23 points Tuesday night and pretty much took care of everything else as well as San Pasqual (25-2), the top-seeded team in Division II, eased past Madison, 59-48, at Torrey Pines High and moved into its second consecutive San Diego Section final.

San Pasqual lost the Section 2-A final to La Jolla last season. With the same starting five it had a year ago, San Pasqual will meet Fallbrook for this year’s Division II championship.

“Its been on our minds all year, getting back to the final,” Doria said. “We wouldn’t have settled for anything less.”

It’s doubtful San Pasqual would be returning without Doria, who not only was the game’s high scorer but passed off for several assists from her point-guard position.

Afterward, she held court with six or seven reporters, not bad for a Section high school semifinal.

“This team’s getting better and better,” Doria said. “Hopefully, we’ll put it all together in the final.”

Against Madison (13-11), the Eagles put it together midway through the second quarter, going on a 10-2 run for a 30-17 halftime lead. Jennifer Gannon scored 8 of her 12 points to lead the Eagles, and Doria scored 6.

Kim Lester scored 15 to lead Madison.
