Tates Locke, 51, an assistant coach under Bob Knight at Indiana, was named head basketball coach at Indiana State. Locke formerly was head coach at Army, Miami (Ohio), Jacksonville and Clemson, and with the Buffalo Braves (now the Clippers) of the National Basketball Assn.
