TONIGHT’S GAMES

BIG WEST CONFERENCE

NEW MEXICO STATE (14-1, 5-0)

at CS LONG BEACH (10-3, 3-2), 7:30.

TV--Prime Ticket. Radio--KORG (1190).

New Mexico State, which defeated Nevada Las Vegas at home and UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine on the road last week, is in first place in the Big West and has a 12-game winning streak. The Aggies have been sparked on their trip by guard Keith Hill, who scored 24 points at Santa Barbara, and center James Anderson, who scored 30 Saturday night at Irvine. Long Beach had won four consecutive games until it lost to Santa Barbara, 82-67, Saturday. In that game the 49ers shot less than 40% for the second time in a row. They also shot 36% from the free-throw line. Forward Kevin Cutler, who had led the team in scoring, has made five of 21 shots in the past two games.

CAL STATE FULLERTON (8-5, 2-2)

at SAN JOSE STATE (4-9, 1-3), 7:30.

TV--None. Radio--KMNY (1600).

After a two-game, two-victory home stand, Fullerton is back on the road for three games. The Titans went 1-5 on their last trip, and are 2-5 on the road overall. San Jose State, recovering under Coach Stan Morrison from the mass player defection under Bill Berry last season, broke a 17-game Big West losing streak with a victory over UC Irvine Jan. 4, but has lost its past two games. The Spartans, led by forward Kenne Young, were defeated by Utah State, 77-72, in Logan, Utah on Saturday, despite the absence of two starters. Guard Andre Brooks was out with the flu and remains questionable. Guard Troy Batiste was one of four players Morrison suspended for a game for academic reasons, although the players met both school and National Collegiate Athletic Assn. academic requirements.
