COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton’s Men’s Soccer Team Wins Its Orange Empire Opener

Fullerton College scored three goals in the second half to defeat Cypress, 3-0, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer opener for both teams Tuesday at Cypress.

Martin Wall, Henry Crompton and Ruben Sanchez scored for Fullerton. Crompton scored his ninth goal of the season, leading all conference scorers. Fullerton, the fourth-ranked team in the state, is 6-1-3. Cypress is 1-7.

In other Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer games:

Golden West 2, Orange Coast 2--Hattan Alsowaigh and Keith Baxter scored for Golden West and Sergio Suarez and Brian Slayback scored for host Orange Coast.

Irvine Valley 3, Riverside 0--Mike Densmore, Frank Pace and Piero Mendiola scored for host Irvine Valley (6-0-2, 1-0) at Harvard Park in Irvine. Riverside is 4-4-1, 0-1.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 3, Golden West 0--Laurie Wilson, Noelle Rost and Lisa Gravell scored for visiting Cypress (4-0) in the conference opener for both teams. Golden West is 1-4-1.

Irvine Valley 5, Long Beach 0--Shantina Gandall scored two goals as Irvine Valley (1-0, 1-0) won at Harvard Park in Irvine.

In nonconference water polo:

Orange Coast 17, Fullerton 10--Ken Nickel scored five goals and Mike Maturd and Mark Campagna had four each as Orange Coast (12-3), the second-ranked team in the state, won at home. Fullerton is 8-12.

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

Fullerton 3, Mt. San Antonio 2--Sarah Roney had 12 kills and Chris Lemburg had 32 assists for host Fullerton, which won, 12-15, 15-4, 15-5, 2-15, 15-9. Fullerton is 4-2; Mt. SAC is 2-4.
