HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Highland Rushes Past Outmanned Mammoth
- Share via
Highland High continued to prosper from its surplus of talented running backs and its dominating offensive line as the Bulldogs rolled over Mammoth, 34-13, Saturday night in a nonleague game at Mammoth High.
Highland (4-0) moved at will throughout the first three quarters, scoring touchdowns on its first five possessions. Mammoth (0-3), with just 22 players, was simply outmanned.
The ground game accounted for 302 of the Bulldogs’ 375 yards in offense. Cleveland Williams, Mike Borja, Donte Daley and Jeff Tepper make up Highland’s talented quartet of running backs.
The offensive line (Joe Astone, Scott Gerstl, Allan Walker, Chuck Idell and Andy Hoggatt) was blasting holes large enough for the team bus to scoot through.
“There were holes everywhere,” Borja said.
Williams (six carries, 75 yards), who has scored nine touchdowns in 32 carries this season, scored on runs of seven and 53 yards.
Borja had a team-high 88 yards in seven carries and scored on a 13-yard pass from Jeff Tyler in the third quarter. Daley had 85 yards in seven carries and Tepper had a 15-yard touchdown and 36 yards.
