PREP ROUNDUP : Costa Mesa Sweeps Western in Tennis

Jessica Lurman swept her sets for Costa Mesa, which beat Western, 18-0, in a nonleague girls’ tennis match Monday at Costa Mesa.
Lurman won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles for Costa Mesa (7-3), which has won seven consecutive matches. Jackie Hsu swept at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 7-5, 6-1.
In other nonleague tennis:
Irvine 10, Foothill 8--Jeanne Lu and the doubles team of Traci Drayer and Jinna Uh provided the depth needed to win the match for host Irvine (5-0). Lu lost, 0-6, then won, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Drayer and Uh lost, 2-6, then won, 6-2, 6-2. Foothill’s Amanda Parson swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
Laguna Beach 10, El Toro 8--Ashley Smith came back to beat Naomi Velastegui, 6-4, in the match’s deciding set for Laguna Beach (6-4, 0-1). Smith was down, 2-3, but broke Velastegui at 5-4 and held on for the victory.
In nonleague water polo:
Villa Park 5, Sunny Hills 3--John Stephenson had 11 saves for Villa Park (11-5), and Mark Magna had nine saves for Sunny Hills ( 4-6).
