El Toro 21, Long Beach Poly 12--El Toro scored two touchdowns in the final 7:47 and held Long Beach Poly to minus-26 yards in the fourth quarter at Trabuco Hills High.

The Chargers (2-3) struggled offensively through three quarters until fullback Dominic Vittori, playing his first game since suffering a concussion three weeks ago, scored on a 26-yard run to tie the game. Bill McFadden’s point after made it 14-13.

On El Toro’s next possession, McFadden drove the team 50 yards before throwing a seven-yard scoring pass to Jason Bailey to seal the victory with 3:32 left. A 20-yard pass to Wade Jackson on third down set up the touchdown.

Poly (1-4) had a 12-7 halftime lead but turned the ball over three times in the fourth quarter.

Vittori entered the game in the second quarter and, on his second carry, scored on a seven-yard run to give El Toro a brief lead. He finished with 89 yards on 17 carries.

Saddleback 17, Santa Ana Valley 3--Saddleback senior Luis Estrella could have been awarded the game ball on offense or defense for the Roadrunners (1-3-1) at Santa Ana Stadium.

After Kevin Marks’ 51-yard run on the opening drive put Santa Ana Valley (0-5) on the Saddleback four, the Roadrunners stopped the Falcons cold. Estrella, playing defensive back, read a third-and-goal sweep and dropped Marks for a nine-yard loss, and Santa Ana Valley settled for a field goal and its only points.

Estrella displayed his offensive credentials with an acrobatic second-quarter touchdown catch. Saddleback quarterback Danny Ruvulo delivered an eight-yard pass that ricocheted off Estrella’s pads and then into his hands as he lay flat on his back to give the Roadrunners a 7-3 lead.
