Cypress 31, Magnolia 21--Gabe Garcia passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Centurions at Handel Stadium.

Leading, 21-7, after three quarters, Cypress (2-3) survived a fourth quarter Sentinel rally.

Magnolia (1-4) cut the lead to 21-13 on a one-yard run by Darrell Turner on the first play of the fourth quarter. The extra point was blocked.

Cypress responded with a one-yard run by Garcia with 8:08 to play, making it 28-13. Magnolia cut it to 28-21 less than two minutes later on a 65-yard scoring pass from Darrell Turner to J.R. Garrett and a successful two-point conversion but could get no closer.

Joey Meza kicked a 25-yard field goal with 26 seconds to play for the final margin.

Garcia, who completed 15 of 18 passes, threw a seven-yard scoring pass to Johnny Teutimez in the second quarter to give Cypress a 14-7 lead, then connected on a 38-yard touchdown to Paul Daerr in the third quarter to make it 21-7.

Mike Brito opened the scoring for Cypress with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Turner completed five of 10 pass attempts for 180 yards. Four completions were to Garrett for 159 yards. Butter McCowan scored Magnolia’s other touchdown on a one-yard run in the second quarter after a fumble recovery by Ray Estrada.

Aaron Martinez paced the Cypress ground game, gaining 86 yards in 18 carries. Teutimez caught seven passes for 72 yards and one touchdown.
