Calabasas 34, Santa Clara 30--The Coyotes took advantage of two fumbles and two interceptions in the first half to score three touchdowns at Calabasas.
Quarterback Todd Cignerelli, who completed six of 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns, gave the Coyotes a 34-22 lead with a 20-yard pass to Richard Lee with 4:58 remaining. Cignerelli hit Cameron LaBlache with a 78-yard pass with 1:14 left in the third quarter.
Santa Clara opened the scoring when Scott Tripp scored on an eight-yard run. Dave Christensen, who had six carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns, scored the Coyotes’ first touchdown on a 64-yard run in the first quarter.
Santa Clara scored next on a 75-yard run by Tripp, and Chris Macias passed to Tripp for the two-point conversion to give the Saints a 15-7 lead after one quarter. Tripp rushed for 250 yards in 18 carries and scored touchdowns of eight, 75, and 14 yards.
