ROUNDUP : CSUN Volleyball Team Falls in 5 Games

Santa Clara rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games to defeat visiting Cal State Northridge, 14-16, 15-7, 4-15, 15-6, 15-6, in a women’s nonconference volleyball match Friday.

Alison Wool led CSUN, which lost its second consecutive match, with 45 assists. On the front line, Nancy Nichols and Missy Clements each had three solo blocks for the Matadors.

In other women’s volleyball matches:

The Master’s d. Cal State Stanislaus, 15-12, 15-2, 15-12--Angie Davenport led all players with 13 kills and Anne Zingleman added five blocks as the host Mustangs (16-18) recorded a nonconference sweep.

Pierce d. Santa Monica, 15-13, 15-10, 15-8--Stephanie Burns recorded 12 kills and teammate Viola Sarkozy added nine as the visiting Brahmas (9-5, 8-3) swept Santa Monica (8-5, 7-4) in a Western State Conference match.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Harvard-Westlake 23, Crespi 7--Ryan Salceda had six goals and Jim Toring added four to lead host Harvard (21-2, 5-0 in league play) in a San Fernando League match.

Royal 25, Newbury Park 2--Mike Radka scored eight goals and teammate Jack Kocur added five as the Highlanders (17-3, 6-0) remained unbeaten in Marmonte League play.

Goalkeeper Ralph Radka recorded 14 saves for Royal, which won its 44th consecutive league contest dating to 1986.

Westlake 15, Simi Valley 4--Josh Millar and Mike Wissot each contributed three goals to lead the Warriors (3-3) past the Pioneers (0-6) in a Marmonte League match.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Valley Alternative d. Westside Alternative 15-11, 15-10--Heather Humphrey and Cherie Tapia each had five kills to lead the Cougars (5-8, 3-5) to a third-place finish in the consolation round of the Magnet League tournament at the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies.
