Pico Rivera El Rancho 21, Bell Gardens 20--Noel Garcia and Richard Gonzales stopped running back Alfred Zamudio on a two-point conversion attempt with 1:06 left to preserve the victory for visiting El Rancho (7-0, 4-0) as the Dons moved closer to their second consecutive Whitmont League title. Zamudio had scored on a 10-yard run for Bell Gardens (4-3, 2-2).

Chris Loera gave the Dons a 21-14 lead with 3:23 left on a one-yard run to cap a 75-yard drive. El Rancho’s Jim Arellanes completed 12 of 21 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown and scored another on a five-yard run.

El Monte 28, Rosemead 27--Phil Garcia teammed with Carl Caston on a 49-yard pass play with 1:49 left to give the visiting Lions their first victory over Rosemead in 10 seasons in a Mission Valley League game.

Louis Garcia intercepted a pass from quarterback Matt Koffler with 1:22 left to preserve the victory for El Monte (4-3, 2-0).

Nogales 28, Los Altos 20--The Nobles overcame a 20-14 fourth-quarter deficit as Lamonte Adams rushed for 156 yards in 23 carries and scored two touchdowns in a Sierra League game at Nogales.

Kevin Devine scored from three yards with five minutes left to put Nogales ahead, 21-20. Quarterback Roland Chavirra ran in from 48 yards for the final margin. Nogales is 6-0-1, 4-0; Los Altos is 3-4 and 2-2.

Antelope Valley 26, Canyon Country Canyon 24--Freddy Edwards, who rushed for 142 yards in 19 carries, scored his fourth touchdown with 3:14 left to lift Antelope Valley (4-3, 2-0) in a Golden League game at Canyon.

Canyon (3-3-1, 0-2), which entered the game with three losses in Golden League play the last 10 years, lost its second in a row.

Thousand Oaks 28, Simi Valley 14--Trailing 14-7 in the third quarter, Simi Valley turned the ball over twice within a four-minute span in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Thousand Oaks (6-1, 4-0) drove 95 yards in 10 plays, and sophomore quarterback Trevor Thompson passed two yards to Josh Pace with 3:27 left in the quarter to extend the lead to 21-7.

On the first play of Simi Valley’s next drive, Kevin Krim intercepted Bennett’s pass and tailback Cory Bowen, who rushed for a season-high 206 yards in 20 carries, scored on the first play from scrimmage to give the Lancers a 28-7 advantage.

Fairfax 24, Venice 19--The Lions opened a 24-6 lead in the third quarter and then held off a rally in a City Coastal Conference game at Fairfax.

Venice (3-1, 4-3) had a chance to win in the final minute. After driving the Gondoliers from their 35-yard line to the Fairfax 18, George Blanco threw four consecutive incomplete passes and the Lions (4-0, 5-1) took over on downs with 52 seconds remaining.

Jefferson 22, South Gate 7--Tony Thomas scored all three Democrat touchdowns in a City Southeastern Conference game at Jefferson (3-4, 3-3).

Thomas rushed for 206 yards in 15 carries and scored on runs of 10 and 55 yards. He caught four passes for 93 yards and scored on a 60-yard reception.
