Dana Hills Coach Is Reassigned

Share

Bryan McSweeney has been removed as the Dana Hills boys’ basketball coach by principal Rickie Lundgren, but Lundgren said she expects McSweeney to return to the position in a year.

Next season McSweeney will coach the junior varsity while Mike Gallups, a McSweeney assistant and freshman coach, will be interim varsity coach.

Lundgren said the move was made to “take some pressures off McSweeney,” whose wife is expecting a baby and who is still adjusting as a teacher.

“There were some personnel issues I had concerns with,” Lundgren said. “But he hasn’t done anything to be fired over or require an investigation. I have not asked him to resign.

“Brian became a head coach very early and needed some more seasoning. But I have confidence he will be back, unless he gets another job offer he likes. Otherwise, I’d open up [the head coaching job] for interviews and start a new program, and I want to maintain what we have.”
