Beauregard Helps Marina Upset Fountain Valley
Robin Beauregard won two events to help sixth-ranked Marina beat No. 2 Fountain Valley in Sunset League girls’ swimming Tuesday at Marina High.
Beauregard won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes 20.90 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.19). She also was the leadoff swimmer on the winning 200 medley relay. Also swimming well for Marina was Kristi Riedzel, who won the 100 butterfly (1:01.46). Vinessa Tjoa and Grace Wang were double-event winners for Fountain Valley.
In Century League baseball:
Orange 8, Villa Park 7--Brian Drew hit a game-winning, pinch-hit, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth for Orange (4-4, 1-1).
In nonleague golf:
Brea Olinda 174, Loara 232--Brea freshman Brad Sader shot two-under 33 and teammate Lisa Costello shot 34 at Dad Miller.
Sunny Hills 183, Huntington Beach 194--Terry Noe and Jin Park each shot one-under 35s at SeaCliff for Sunny Hills (6-0).
In nonleague softball:
Orange 10, Costa Mesa 0 (5, mercy)--Pam Dewitt was three for three with a triple, double and five RBIs for Orange (5-2).
St. Margaret’s 5, Southern California Christian 1--Abby Arnold pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for visiting St. Margaret’s (6-2).
Villa Park 3, Loara 1 (8)--Tammie Kincaid pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and hit a two-run double in the eighth for Villa Park (4-4).
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Huntington Beach 3, Woodbridge 2--Third-ranked Huntington Beach (4-0) rallied to win, 4-15, 13-15, 15-2, 15-3, 15-11. Dave McKenzie had 20 kills for the Oilers.
