Perris basketball standout Maylana Martin is among the finalists for the 1996 Boost-Naismith national prep basketball player of the year awards sponsored by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The winners will be announced on March 24. . . . Murrieta Valley’s baseball team broke a school record for hits in one game with 24 against Menifee of Paloma Valley last Thursday. The previous record of 20 was established the previous Saturday in a 31-1 victory over Hemet. . . . Scott Montgomery of Perris had four doubles in a 7-3 victory over Pacific on Friday, tying a Southern Section record for doubles in a game. . . . In softball, Meghann Pricer of Canyon Springs, struck out 14 of 15 batters in a five-inning no-hitter Friday against Rubidoux. She has four no-hitters in the past five games, allowing only a seventh-inning single against Riverside La Sierra Thursday. . . . Kim Dodd of the Cathedral City softball team hit a three-run homer against Brawley in 4-3 victory. She also hit a three-run homer in a 15-14 win over Calexico on Friday. . . . In track and field, Greg Lomenick of Eisenhower ran the 800 meters in 1:58.2 at the Bronco invitational Saturday. . . . Joe Chapman of Don Lugo set a meet record at the La Verne Relays with a long jump of 21 feet 2 inches. . . . Ryan Beveridge will be the new football coach at Arlington. Beveridge, 52, has been coaching for 20 years, including nine at Northview and seven at Nogales. He guided Northview to a Southern Section divisional title in 1987. Beveridge replaces Danny Arellano.
