Loyola boys’ basketball Coach Bill Thomason resigned Monday, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. In 18 seasons, Thomason coached such players as Ryan Jamison, who went to California, and UCLA’s Toby Bailey. No replacement has been named. . . . Los Angeles’ Deon Green was the only sophomore selected to the All-City Section Division 4-A boys’ basketball team, which was released Wednesday. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 23 points for the Romans, who were eliminated by Manual Arts in the first round of the playoffs. . . . Senior guard Tina Greer of Washington and junior forward Janice Thomas of Dorsey were selected as the All-City Section Division 4-A and 3-A girls’ players of the year, respectively. . . . Crenshaw’s 91-81 victory over Concord De La Salle in the state Division I boys’ championship game last Saturday in Sacramento established several tournament records. The 172 combined points were the most scored, as were the 91 by Crenshaw. Junior guard Alastair Faux also broke a record by making five three-point shots. . . . St. John Bosco basketball standout Brian Johnson, a 6-foot-6 forward, said he will sign with UC Irvine next month. . . . In a triangular meet with Narbonne and Banning last week, Dorsey’s Clarence Scott established himself among the nation’s leaders in the 100 meters (10.6 seconds) and long jump (24 feet 10 inches). . . . Steve Morrison has been hired as the new football coach at Murphy, replacing Greg Dixon. Morrison is a former assistant at Muir.
