Jackie DeBoard improved to 9-0 after pitching La Serna to a 2-1 victory over West Covina in the championship game of the Arroyo softball tournament on Monday. DeBoard was named the tournament’s most valuable player. . . . Robin Haaker pitched the fourth no-hitter of her career to lead South Hills to a 12-0 victory over Rio Hondo Prep in the first round of the Duarte softball tournament last Thursday. . . . Dion Light pitched a no-hitter to lead Chino to a 1-0 victory over Glendora in baseball Tuesday. Light improved to 3-0 for the season. . . . In a showdown between two of the area’s top pitchers, Nogales’ Jesse Carranza out-dueled Baldwin Park’s Jose Garcia as the Nobles won, 4-2, last Friday. Carranza came within one out of a complete game in improving to 3-1; Garcia struck out eight in dropping to 1-2. . . . Diamond Bar pitcher Shaun Kramer had six strikeouts and allowed only five hits as the Brahmas had 17 hits, including seven for extra bases, in defeating West Covina, 22-0, Tuesday. . . . Whittier’s Bernard Maitai won the 3,000 meters in a personal-best time of 8:48 at the 11th annual Bronco Track and Field Invitational at Cal Poly Pomona last Saturday.
