Brethren Christian Names Boys’ Athletic Director

Dennis Eastman has been named boys’ athletic director at Brethren Christian High.

Eastman, 29, replaces Robin Davis, who will remain at Brethren Christian as a teacher but wanted to concentrate on coaching the women’s volleyball team at Biola University.

Eastman has been a teacher and coach at Brethren Christian, serving as the football team’s defensive coordinator the last two seasons.

Melissa Plass, a setter at Fountain Valley High, will attend Pepperdine, her club team coach said Monday.

Plass, an All-Sunset League selection, also considered UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and Florida, said Charlie Brande of the Orange County Volleyball Club.

Craig Ritter, an Orange Coast College infielder, will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Orange Coast announced.

Ritter, a two-time All-Orange Empire Conference selection, batted .324 for the Pirates last season. He was also the 1995 Sunset League player of the year while at Fountain Valley High.

Also, Pirate first baseman Joe Jones and pitcher Eric Turner are transferring to Chico State. Jones batted .278 and Turner was 2-7 with a 7.48 earned-run average in 14 starts.

Alan Estoesta has been named softball coach at Concordia University.

Estoesta, 28, replaces Lynette Privatsky, who resigned in June. Concordia made its first playoff appearance since 1990 last season.

Estoesta has been an assistant at Orange Coast College and Corona del Mar High.

Tickets for the John R. Wooden Classic college basketball doubleheader Dec. 6 at the Pond will go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Pond box office and at Ticketmaster outlets.

This year’s doubleheader will match UCLA against New Mexico and Stanford against Georgia.

Ticket prices range from $15 to $150 for the two games.
