A final look at the top girls’ volleyball teams in the Southland:

1. Long Beach Wilson (SS-Div. I-AA, 36-4)

Successful season for Bruins despite a loss to Mountain View St. Francis in state Division I championship.

2. Marymount (SS-Div. IV-AA, 36-4)

Definition of a top program: Sailors won their third consecutive state Division IV championship.

3. Los Alamitos (SS-Div. I-AA, 30-8)

Upset Long Beach Wilson in Division I-AA section championship, but Griffins lost to Bruins in state playoff rematch.

4. Newport Harbor (SS-Div. II-AA, 27-7)

Before leaving for Pepperdine, Kristin McClune led the Sailors to the Division II-AA section title.

5. Mater Dei (SS-Div. II-A, 29-9)

One to watch: Monarch sophomore Mallorie Croal is already making a name for herself.

6. Bishop Montgomery (SS-Div. III-A, 29-8)

Perennial power won its third Division III state championship since 1996.

7. Marina (SS-Div. I-A, 19-5)

Vikings saved best for last, beating Mira Costa for Division I-A section title behind UCLA-bound Becky Green.

8. St. Margaret’s (SS-Div. IV-A, 24-5)

Tartans won Division IV-A section title, but were again foiled by Marymount in state playoffs.

9. Mira Costa (SS-Div. I-A, 23-6)

Mustangs are a team of the future as several key players return next season.

10. Esperanza (SS-Div. I-AA, 25-6)

Early elimination from playoffs puts damper on Aztecs’ otherwise solid season.
