Sarah Hasenfus had 12 assists and 24 digs and Nancy Hernandez had eight kills 14 digs for Canoga Park (1-1). El Camino falls to 0-2.

Garfield d. Verdugo Hills, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12
With Garfield trailing 12-7 in the fifth game, senior setter Maria Ortiz served for eight consecutive points for host Garfield (2-1). Ortiz finished with five aces, including two in the decisive stretch of the fifth game. She also had 30 assists and eight digs. Julie Bracamontes led the Bulldogs with a team-high 23 kills and also had 15 digs, while Laura Sandoval finished with 16 kills, four aces and a team-leading 20 digs, and Sylvia Loza had eight blocks.

Middle blocker Crystal Perryman had 22 kills, Jennifer Espindola had 40 assists and Layle Busante had 23 digs for Verdugo Hills. Sara Bonet finished with eight kills and 10 digs and Camille Alvarez had eight kills and three blocks for the Dons (4-3).

Cynthia Maldonado had six kills, 16 digs and four aces and Cindy Menjivar had nine kills and two aces to lead the Bulldogs (2-0). Nabile Garcia added 25 assists and three aces for Elizabeth. Huntington Park falls to 1-2.

Fairfax d. Foshay, 27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16
Collene Santos had 14 service aces and Anastasiya Vorona had seven kills for Fairfax (1-1) in the win at Foshay.

Manual Arts d. Gardena, 25-10, 25-18, 25-10
Virginia Flores of Manual Arts (2-0) had nine aces and teammate Ana Garcia added seven kills. Gardena is now 0-1.

San Pedro d. Chatsworth, 26-28, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12
Jenny Miller had nine kills and five digs and Amber McColl had eight kills and six blocks for San Pedro (2-0). Samantha Taylor added 20 assists and seven kills for San Pedro.

Elizabeth d. Roosevelt, 25-22, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19
Cynthia Maldonado had six kills and five service aces and Cindy Menjivar added six kills and four aces for Elizabeth (1-0), which also got 22 assists from setter Nabile Garcia in the match at home. Roosevelt falls to 1-1 overall.

Manual Arts d. Bell, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22
Stephanie Ferrell had 13 kills, Virginia Flores had seven aces and five digs to lead visiting Manual Arts (1-0) over Bell (0-2).

Valley Alternative d. Franklin, 20-25, 25-7, 25-9, 14-7 (match suspended, no decision)
Luisa Umana had 11 kills with a .409 hitting percentage and 11 services aces and 10 digs in the no decision for host Valley Alternative at Balboa Sports Center in Encino. The match was called in the middle of the fourth game, much to the dismay of both coaches, when Rec and Park officials decided the court needed to be cleared immediately for a pee-wee basketball game.

Verdugo Hills d. Crescenta Valley, 25-23, 25-21, 25-16
Crystal Perryman had 15 kills, Jennifer Espindola added 25 assists, and Layle Busante chipped in 22 digs for Verdugo Hills (4-2). Crescenta Valley is 2-1.

Monday, Sept. 20

Bell 5, L.A. Marshall 2
Daisy Lara and Veronica Ortega won in No. 1 doubles for visiting Bell at Griffith Park in the season opener for both teams.

Grant d. Fairfax, 25-20, 25-10, 25-19
Kelsey Molina had six aces and three kills to lead Grant at Fairfax in the season opener for both teams.

Olayinka Rahman had 10 kills for a .429 hitting percentage, Sharr Siamson added 12 digs and Madelyn Busto put up for 25 assists for Valley Alternative in the season opener for both teams.
