Boys’ basketball: Big upsets in 1A playoffs

The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds were elminiated on Friday night from the Southern Section 1A playoffs. Perris took out No. 1 El Toro, 60-52. And Villa Park defeated No. 2 Alemany, 65-62.

It was business as usual in the Open Division. Stanley Johnson scored 42 points in Mater Dei’s 77-59 win over Mayfair. Kendall Small had 21 points for Mayfair. Mater Dei (29-0) will play host to North in the semifinals. North defeated Corona Centennial, 78-76.

The other semifinal will match Redondo and Chino Hills. Redondo defeated Loyola, 65-54, with Leland Green scoring 13 points. Chino Hills defeated Etiwanda, 59-48.

In consolation glames, Daniel Hamilton scored 17 points and Tyler Dorsey 16 in St. John Bosco’s 58-52 win over Compton. Cody Riley scored 22 points in Sierra Canyon’s 54-45 win over Gardena Serra. Michael Oguine had 17 points in Chaminade’s 53-34 win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart. Bishop Montgomery defeated Cathedral, 71-59.

In 1AA, Long Beach Millikan upset No. 2 Rancho Cucamonga, 86-84. Long Beach Poly will play Inglewood and Millikan will face Mission Viejo in the semifinals.

In 4AA, Buckley’s 30-game winning streak came to an end, with JSerra getting an 83-70 victory. Austin Butler scored 27 points for Buckley (30-1). JSerra will play Oaks Christian in the final. KJ Smith scored 21 points in Oaks Christian’s 69-59 win over Mission Prep.

In 4A, Windward and Village Christian advanced to the final. Windward received 22 points from Wonder Smith in a 78-64 win over Price. Village Christian defeated Campbell Hall, 91-75. Aaron Holiday scored 42 points for Campbell Hall.

In 2A, Calabasas defeated El Dorado, 67-49. Larry Bush scored 26 points.

In 2AA, Westlake defeated Pasadena, 73-71, in overtime. Isaiah Brooks had 21 points for Westlake. Ajon Efferson led Pasadena with 28 points.

In 3A, St. Francis defeated La Canada, 56-33. Kyle Leufroy had 20 points. Oak Park upset No. 1-seeded Santa Barbara, 64-57.
