Boys’ basketball: Narbonne defeats Taft to advance to Huntington Park final

Narbonne advanced to the championship game of the Huntington Park tournament and helped its City Section Open Division seeding possibilities with an 81-69 victory over Taft on Friday night.

D’amuria Jones scored 20 points for the Gauchos, who will play Fairfax on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Huntington Park in the final.

The new year has been very, very good for North Hollywood and Sean Fernandez.

The Huskes are 4-0, and Hernandez scored 40 points in North Hollywood’s 65-57 win over Van Nuys.

North Hollywood improved to 8-9 and is looking like a contender for top seed in City Section Division II the way it has been playing of late. Its wins have come against University, Gardena, Kennedy and the Wolves.

In Gold Coast League openers, Sierra Canyon cruised to a 103-70 victory over Windward. Remy Martin scored 24 points.

In an upset, Campbell Hall received 22 points from Jordan Cohen to knock off Viewpoint, 59-55. Mike Meadows added 13 points. Christian Juzang led Viewpoint with 20 points.

Northridge Heritage Christian (12-2) defeated Crenshaw, 98-73, in a semifinal game of the Antelope Valley tournament. Junior Juhwan Harris-Dyson had 23 points.

Tarbut V’Torah (10-2) defeated Anaheim Discovery Christian, 89-17. Brandon Averitt had 33 points.

Foothill defeated Tustin, 46-32.

In a Gold Coast League girls’ basketball opener, Windward defeated Sierra Canyon, 49-45. Jayde Woods scored 23 points for Windward.
