Football: Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran tune up for Trinity League showdown
- Share via
Next week is going to be pretty quiet for members of the Trinity League. It’s the bye week. Then league play begins on Oct. 9 featuring a series of showdowns every week as the scramble begins trying to earn a Pac-5 Division playoff berth.
What a great opener matching Santa Ana Mater Dei (5-0) and Orange Lutheran (3-2) at Orange Coast College. In their latest games on Friday night, both schools continue to impress.
Freshman quarterback J.T. Daniels of Mater Dei has now attempted 93 passes over four games with just one interception. That makes Coach Bruce Rollinson smile. He was 19 of 26 for 297 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-26 win over Edison. Brandon LaMarche added 146 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Jalen Cole had five unassisted tackles.
Orange Lutheran handed Vista Murrieta a rare 29-14 defeat. The Lancers have played a very difficult nonleague schedule and become better for it. Dominik Austin and quarterback L.J. Northington each rushed for more than 100 yards. The Lancers ran for 384 yards.
The other openers will have JSerra (5-0) vs. Servite (2-3) at Cerritos College and Santa Margarita (4-1) taking on St. John Bosco (4-0) at Saddleback College.
There will be so much intrigue each week.
