Football: The QBs are sticking it out at Bishop Amat

Share

Corona Centennial showed last season that you can succeed using two quarterbacks who agreed to get along for the good of the team.

Bishop Amat may try to pull off a similar scenario this season with Ryder Ruiz and Damian Garcia. Garcia started last season, got hurt, Ruiz took over and both are back competing for the starting job this season.

They’ve stuck it out with no guarantees who might play. Their teammates trust either one. Their coaches seem pleased that both are doing their best and ready to help out in any way possible.

There is a long season ahead and injuries happen. Bishop Amat is unique, because I don’t think there’s a team in Southern California with two better quarterbacks than the Lancers.

If the quarterbacks are prepared to support each other and put their trust in the coaching staff making wise choices, then beware. That’s a dynamic to reckon with.

The first test is Friday’s nonleague opener against Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium on Prime Ticket.
