Football: Farmer leads Notre Dame past Bishop Amat

Share

Koa Farmer took over at quarterback in the third quarter and led Notre Dame to a 31-21 victory over Bishop Amat in tonight’s Serra League opener in Sherman Oaks.

Farmer scampered 24 yards for the clinching touchdown with 1:31 left and he also caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Grant Kraemer, who appeared to injure his shoulder running for a two-point conversion on Notre Dame’s first drive of the second half.

Notre Dame’s defense forced three turnovers, intercepting Bishop Amat quarterback Koa Haynes twice and stripping him of the ball late in the fourth quarter. Chris Colarossi rushed for two short touchdowns and Lucas Alfonso kicked a 34-yard field goal for the Knights (5-2), who host Alemany next week.

Touchdown runs by Anthony Camargo and Adrian Ortega pulled the Lancers (5-2) to within 24-21 with 2:28 left, but Notre Dame recovered the ensuing onside kick to set up Farmer’s score.

Alemany, ranked #6 in the Southland by The Times, lost its league opener to Loyola, proof that any team can win on any given night in the tough Serra League.
